Permethrin
Elimite cream is an anti-parasite medication. It is used to treat head lice and scabies.

Product Description

General information
This medication is used to treat scabies, a condition caused by tiny insects called mites that infest and irritate your skin. Permethrin belongs to a class of drugs known as pyrethrins. Permethrin works by paralyzing and killing the mites and their eggs.
Directions
Elimite cream is for use on the skin only. Apply the medicine from your head to the soles of your feet, including under your nails and in skin folds such as between the toes, as directed. Massage the cream into the skin. Do not use more medication than prescribed. Wash off the cream after 8-14 hours by showering or taking a bath.
Precautions
Avoid getting the cream into your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. If the medication gets in your eyes, flush the eyes with plenty of water. To avert consecutive infection wash all clothing, hats, bed clothes, bed linens, and towels in hot water and dry in high heat. Dry-clean any non-washable clothing. Hair brushes, combs, and hair accessories and all things of personal hygiene should be used only by yourself. Avoid taking it during breastfeeding. Avoid sexual or intimate contact with others until your lice or scabies infection has cleared up.
Contraindications
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to permethrin. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

The most common side effects are mild burning, stinging, or skin irritation, including itching, swelling, and redness. It may occur with scabies and temporarily worsen after treatment with permethrin.
Drug interactions
It is not likely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on topically applied permethrin.
Missed dose
Since permethrin cream is usually needed only once, wait at least 7 days before using a second application.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between 15-30 C (59-86 F). Store away from moisture and light.
